Outdoor Discoveries

What originally was a news section for the rest of the website soon became a place for me to write about human-powered wanderings in the countryside. Photography inspires me to get out there, mostly on foot these days, though cycling got me started. Musings on the wider context of outdoor activity complete the picture, so I hope that there is something of interest in all that you find here. Thank you for coming!

Cumbrian train crash

24th February 2007

Last night, there was a scary derailment on the West Coast Mainline between Oxenholme and Penrith. It’s a line that I use quite a bit and the accident does give me pause for thought; especially since I am sure to have passed the place where it happened many a time and probably will do so again in the future once all is over. Thankfully, it wasn’t a serious as it could have been but my thoughts are with those who were affected by this, particularly the family of the lady who was killed.
