Now we get a closer view of the Sugar Loaf, and in a more natural setting too. Emphasising that it can be a base for walkers, this vista was captured just a few miles outside Abergavenny. The Sugar Loaf is one of the foothills of the Black Mountains dominating this area of the Brecon Beacons National Park. As mountains go, it is not that high at 1955 feet or 592 metres above sea level, and its rounded profile allowed me the confidence to climb to its top. Incidentally, the more observant among you might have noted a path up its flank above.
