Penya de Migdia, Biniaraix, Mallorca, Spain

Here is another photo that is affected by blue wintertime heat haze and that is one reason why I have chosen a close up view here. Much of the higher prominences that you will find around Mallorca are made of limestone, a free draining rock that is greasy when wet. Quite how vegetation flourishes in such soil conditions in what appeared to me to be an arid climate is source of amazement. However, though I benefited from near constant sunshine during my stay, there are times when spells of rain come the way so that must explain how shrubs persevere like they do.
