The photo shows a scene from my visit in July 2015 but you can see what it looks like around the year on its webcam; at times, you even may get to see the Aurora Borealis shining overhead. A local telecom company hosts a number of webcams for other well known Icelandic locations so you can look at those too.
For any Reykjavik resident who fancies hill walking, Esja (pronounced eez-ya, I believe) is the local mountain range. If I had not been distracted by other delights on my visit, maybe I would have trotted about these mountains too. After all, they extend above sea level 900 metres in places and the going gets challenging in places too. As things stand, I might be tempted if a future visit were to come to pass.
