Almost directly across Parliament Street from Betty's Cafe, you will find Harrogate's Cenotaph or War Memorial. This sombre structure was unveiled by the sixth Earl of Harewood in 1923 as a memorial to the dead in the First World War. For obvious reasons, it was re-dedicated after World War II. A remembrance ceremony takes place here every November as it does elsewhere around the United Kingdom. The tower of St. Peter's Church can be seen in the background.
