A roundabout route back from #Knutsford: Summer 2020: I walked from Knutsford to #Macclesfield during the pandemic. Route: #Tatton Park, #Rostherne, #Mobberley, past quiet #Manchester Airport, along North #Cheshire and Bollin Valley Ways. Mixed busy spots (Quarry Bank Mill, #Wilmslow) with peaceful stretches. Passed #Mottram Hall, #Prestbury. One of my longest walks, ending with satisfaction despite challenges. Saw some contention between users of #Greenways around #Cork in the last few weeks. The first one definitely was not nice, and the second could have been tricky too. There is a tension between relaxation and exercise that cannot be avoided anywhere. Patience is what is needed, and having more space will help too.
A circuit around #Mangerton near #Killarney was far drier than what I found in the Beara peninsula. There is more to savour around there too, though #Glenflesk may make for a better starting point.
#Doneraile not better connected for day trippers than it once was. That is handy because Doneraile Park is worth a visit.
The #Ballyhoura Mountains also allowed for a day of hiking. An out and back walk from #Ballyhea and #Seefin, near #Ardpatrick, will need a long day, though. Public transport makes it work from #Cork, too.
Another day trip from #Cork got me to #Schull and #Ballydehob, allowing for some hiking between the two. It is good to get to know where to go walking around West Cork.
Recently spent some time exploring #Glengarriff and #Adrigole in the Beara Peninsula. The scenery is fabulous, though there was boggy going on the #Beara Way between Adrigole and Glengarriff. Going west from Adrigole to Castletown Beare now takes my fancy, even if that needs to wait and will likely need a stay in the area. Day trips from #Cork do not work always.

There are different classifications; just use the menu to flick between them. Mind you, some of the potential routes look like those of railway lines that will not be closing any time soon. Other than that, the effort is impressive. Tailte Éireann need to do better at marking the completed ones on their maps.

A return to North America: This is an account of a 2023 visit to North America, focusing on the San Francisco Bay Area. Aviemore, again: This recounts a trip to the Scottish Highlands, reflecting on previous visits. These explorations of the Cairngorms included an ascent of Bynack More. Spent #Christmas and New Year in #Scotland. The weather was mixed, and Storm #Gerrit nearly stopped a stay in #Aviemore. #Edinburgh was my base for Christmas before heading north later. All in all, the hiking took in the Water of #Leith, the #Pentland Hills, the #Cairngorms, #Kingussie and #Inverness. #Travel took me by #Aberdeen as well. There was much to savour despite unpromising #weather prospects.

Musings on cycling This post nearly got called "Misgivings about cycling" after encountering a cyclist riding at speed on the pavement while out for two evening walks last week. While I accept that riding on the road can be forboding, going on the footway is illegal and these incidents happened when the road was quiet as well. A Worldwide Mapping Survey Without decent maps, we'd never get around the countryside on foot or by bicycle as we do. One only has to start reading Rachel Hewitt's Map of a Nation to realise the debt that we in the U.K. owe our forbears when it comes to the quality of what we enjoy today. Travels have been limited to England and Wales this year but hope to go further afield when circumstances allow. That could mean waiting a while yet...
