High Pike, Ambleside, Cumbria, England

The mists of time have erased any memory of the route that I was intending to follow when I first passed under High Pike on the way to Scandale Pass. Admittedly, the prospect of summiting on Red Screes was in play though I rejected it on the basis of time and the threat of frozen turf. A few years were to pass before I did reach the top of that hill on a very frigid and grey November day when the ground underneath me was frozen solid once I reached a certain height. My return to Ambleside was via Scandale and both High Sweden and Low Sweden bridges too, reversing the course that I was following when I made the above photo. My walking the Fairfield horseshoe from Rydal to Ambleside had me traipsing along the tops of both High Pike and Low Pike too. The way up took me over Heron Pike and Great Rigg before I crossed Fairfield to negotiate Hart Crag and Dove Crag. In other words, it can be said that I have trampled ground around here a few times then, but that isn't to say that I am done with this neck of the woods.
