In 2007, completing sections of the Pennine Way became a long term walking project of mine. Then, a series of day walks taking me from Edale to Hawes with a spot of recce beyond Bellingham as well as an overnight stay in Kirk Yetholm after walking from Wooler. Filling in those gaps further north stalled due to lower population density making for less frequent public transport services. After all, heading into wilder country on multi-day hikes becomes the mainstay of any northbound progress from Hawes. Some added planning would be essential if I were to complete the whole trail, even in stages.
