This view was ever present as I trotted along the shore of Buttermere on my way towards Haystacks, not my intended objective for the day at that point, but plans can change for the better while out on a walk. On a map, the fell itself looks like a spur from nearby Robinson and any lack of height finds its compensation in what is a rocky hillside. That is a characteristic of many lower fells around the Lake District: mountainous without a loftiness of height. When you find one in a stunning location like High Snockrigg on a day just as superb, it is a joy to behold.
