Having decided against walking over their summits from Scarth Gap, I subsequently had plenty of time for savouring the sights of High Crag, High Stile and Red Pike afterwards. First, there was a long summer evening from which I hardly wanted to come indoors from a sound of silence only broken by the sound of the waters of Sourmilk Gill tumbling down from Bleaberry Tarn. It was only failing light after 22:00 that just about convinced me to do so. It may have taken a little time for the sun to work its magic the following morning but what I sampled was better than the weather forecast suggested, as this scene with High Crag on the left and High Stile on the right should prove.
