Fleetwith Pike & Warnscale, Buttermere, Cumbria, England

This view came more and more into sight as I gained height on the way from Buttermere up to Scarth Pass. Fleetwith Pike is unmissable, and I since have seen it being described as having a ridge associated with it, even though the Ordnance Survey show little sign of supporting the contention on their maps. Maybe I can have my own exploration to see what's meant in the fullness of time.

Later on the day when this scene was captured, I went along the lower slopes of Fleetwith Pike while on my way back from Haystacks to Buttermere village again. You may see two paths at either side of what is Warnscale Beck. It was the one at the left that I used after a crossing of the beck instead of the one at the right coming downhill beneath the brooding crags of Haystacks. For a while, I had thought my choice an oversight on my part but for the craggy start to the alternative that I rejected. The descent still took its toll on my legs anyway as I dropped away from any sight of Grey Knotts or Brandreth, which lie in the background.
