This is the side of Pen-y-Ghent that travellers on the Settle-Carlisle railway see. Once down off the hill on the Pennine Way, walkers get to see this side too and, on a fine evening, views like this make the effort all the more worthwhile. So far, I have visited Pen-y-Ghent twice and the second of these was an out-and-out Pennine Way adventure. The first excursion took me up the easier side on a dull morning with a stroll over Plover Hill taking up the time until I made my way back to Horton on a memorable evening.
