The path that replaces the Grinds Brook route now takes the Pennine Way on gentler inclines to Upper Booth from where it ascends to Edale Cross by way of Jacob's Ladder, a packhorse route used to get between Cheshire and this part of Derbyshire. You may not encounter the moorland as fast this way, but you still encounter it soon enough as you can see above. This is the approach to Edale Cross and the ill-designed paving of Jacob's Ladder is behind us. Kinder Scout would be the next landmark for northbound hikers of the Pennine Way.
