Derbyshire's River Wye actually rises among the hills between Macclesfield and Buxton before going underground through Poole's Cavern and reappearing above ground at Wye Head near Burbage on the eastern outskirts of Buxton. This river is one that I have associated more strongly with places like Monsal Head, Ashford-in-the-Water and Bakewell than Buxton. Sometimes, your geographic perception is less sound than it should be and that certainly applies here.
