It was the descent to get a photo of this scene that put paid to any thoughts of joining the Pennine Way to go over Kinder Scout. Too much height was lost, so I then lost some more to take in the reservoir dam before continuing on for William Clough, the gash in the hillside that leads up tot the Pennine Way beyond Kinder Scout. Reading the logic as I am writing it makes it look odd now but that was my decision at the time and I got to repeat other photos from around ten years before as a result, so there was a lot of gain for my pains. Even the scene you see here was one of those, and it was just as well that I left Kinder Scout for another time since the descent from there would have been on a snowy track. It still awaits another visit, and who knows what might come of that?
