The reality of Cheshire's actual county top is nowhere near as distinguished or as distinctive as the appearance of nearby Shutlingsloe. That hill is pipped by Shining Tor, the type of rolling moorland that is typical of Pennine hill country. The profile may not be so inspiring but there still is quite a pull on the way up to the top even when the Cat and Fiddle Inn is you starting point. Aside from the compensations of the views, it also allows for longer walks around it, and it was on one that wound its way home from the aforementioned hostelry that I glimpsed this scene of a September evening and captured it for my own satisfaction while not far from Forest Chapel.
