Shutlingsloe, Macclesfield Forest, Cheshire, England

This is the most accessible approach to one of Cheshire's best know hills. Shutlingsloe, as I discovered more recently than is preferable, is not the county top, yet that does little to take away from its character for the distinctive shape can be seen from miles around. From one end, it could draw comparisons with the Matterhorn, but the reality is that it is shapes like a wedge as are so many British hills. Nevertheless, a short stiff ascent from the car park near Trentabeck Reservoir will bring you hear though you still to realise that this is hill country since a windy day could knock you over at the top of this modestly high hummock.
