Ármannsfell from Þingvellir, Þingvellir National Park, Iceland

One thing that I like to do with photos of landscape scenes is the exclusion of people. Of course, that is not always possible though and then there are times when it is nice to include a human presence too to show the scale of things. This photo is one of those with little in the way of human intrusion and was taken only a stone's throw away from a car park, and you would reckon that it was further away from human intrusion than that. It just goes to show that quiet spots are there to be savoured even at busy tourist hotspots like Þingveller.

It also helps that the photo was taken in the evening time when most visitors had moved away. Then, I was on the return leg of a coach excursion that also took in Geysir and Gullfoss and was glad to have gold evening light in place of its stronger midday counterpart. The rocky hills comprising Ármannsfell are not as high as their Botnssúlur counterparts, but the softer shapes remind me of British hills, so nature repeats itself even in unfamiliar settings.
