Dómkirkjan, Reykjavík, Iceland

Despite appearances to the contrary, Dómkirkjan remains Reykjavík's cathedral for members of the Icelandic Lutheran Christian Church, an organisation associated with the state in a manner reminiscent of the Anglican Church of England. Others may think the more recently built Hallgrímskirkja is the cathedral with its lofty position and its domination of the city's skyline, but this is not at all the case. In contrast, the actual cathedral is to be found in the city centre and looks a more humble building, like it appears in the photo. There also is a Roman Catholic cathedral with its own tower, and it was designed by the same architect as Hallgrímskirkja, though that does not show in its design.
