Esja, Reykjavík, Iceland

Esja, Reykjavík, Iceland

The photo shows a scene from my visit in July 2015, but you can see what it looks like around the year on its webcam at times, you even may get to see the Aurora Borealis shining overhead. A local telecom company hosts a number of webcams for other well known Icelandic locations, so you can look at those too.

For any Reykjavík resident who fancies hill walking, Esja (pronounced eez-ya, I believe) is the local mountain range. If I had not been distracted by other delights on my visit, maybe I would have trotted about these mountains too. After all, they extend above sea level 900 metres in places and the going gets challenging in places too. As things stand, I might be tempted if a future visit were to come to pass.
