Sunshine was scarce on my day trip from Reykjavík to Landmannalaugar (pronunciation: land-mann-ah-loo-arr) so that has limited the number of photos of the place that appear in this album. This is one of those and captures a scene blessed by spouts of sunshine that anyone staying nearby will not miss. As it happened, the campsite and Icelandic Touring Association facilities lay immediately behind me in a setting that reminded me more of Everest base camp than anywhere else where I have been. Though it was a day in July, I regretted not having a down jacket with me because of the chill in the air. Skies were mostly grey with occasional sprinklings of rain, so I was not one for awaiting the bus departure for which I had a ticket even though travelling with another company was going to cost me more. In retrospect, buying a single journey ticket for the outbound service and bringing more cash with me would have offered more flexibility, but that is a lesson for another time; you learn as you live.
