University College, Cork, Éire

This photo exhibits a distinct problem with photography around Britain and Ireland in those months extending from October through to February: shadows cause by the low position of the sun in the sky. The phenomenon also explains why I chose a detail shot of part of the architecture surrounding the Main Quadrangle in University College, Cork. It is a place well known to me from my student years at the institution and there is a pleasing scene from the roadway leading down to Gaol Cross that I would like to recapture sometime.

As I write these word, my mind is turning towards the idea of spending more time in the city when days are brighter, possibly of an Easter weekend. The city itself may be compact, but there is more to see and Blarney is near at hand as is Kinsale while Killarney is not so far away either. A visit encompassing all of these with cooperation from the weather would aid photography and any extra photos could then grow the Irish albums in this gallery. For now, that remains in a possible future but the thought itself is still an alluring one.
