St. Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork, Éire

St. Fin Barre

There was a time when this structure was more visible to those walking along Western Road, but those days are gone, and you need to come up close to experience the full impact of the architecture. The present structure, on a site in use since the seventh century, was completed in 1870 and has a multinational feel with French Pyrenean marble floors created by Italian craftsmen. Adding to this was an architect from London called William Burges who designed everything you see, both internally and externally. The building is the mother church of the Church of Ireland Diocese of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, In addition, a renowned choir adds to every service they accompany and that includes all those on Sundays. In short, the place probably is a gem worth experiencing for yourself.
