General Post Office, O'Connell Street, Dublin, Éire

General Post Office, O

Dublin's General Post Office, otherwise known as the G.P.O., is a building with a lot of history from the early twentieth century. After all, it was a holdout during the Easter Rising of 2016 and remained largely wrecked until the Irish government restored it in 1929. Until the establishment of RTÉ and the arrival of indigenous television broadcasting in 1961, it also was the base for Radio Éireann.

These days, it remains an imposing building and hosts everyday principal post office services for the city of Dublin. The building dates from the early nineteenth century, so there is an imposing porticoed entrance and a statue of Cú Chulain dating from around the same time.
