This photo comes from a flying visit to Dublin allowed by a ferry booking that I needed to use. That was originally made as a backup travel option for a Christmas visit to Ireland during a period of wintry weather when snow fell. There was a lot of sunshine to be found on the way, but clouds filled the sky as the day wore on, limiting whatever photographic opportunities that I may have had. Even so, I still enjoyed a stroll around Howth Head and that was when this image was made. An overnight journey on the last ever sailing from Dublin to Birkenhead made by DFDS was a sombre experience as it marked the end of a route opened up by the merchant navy before that became Norfolk Line, which was bought by DFDS.
