One thing that is distinctive about this album is the number of photos of monuments commemorating the struggle for Irish independence that it contains. Here is one recalling the Easter Rising in 1916 that set in train the sequence of events that led to the foundation of the Irish Free State in 1922. Both Limerick city and county had strong links to that rebellion in the form of the city's own Ned Daly and Castlemahon's Con Colbert, after whom the city's railway station is called, while Tom Clarke was married to Ned Daly's sister Kathleen. There is a lot of national history around if you know where to look.
