Great Hall, Desmond Castle, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick, Éire

It is tempting to think that this well-preserved if roofless ruin in the Desmond Castle complex has been that way for centuries. In fact, that is not so, and I am left to wonder if it might regain its roof again at some point for it once was used as a cinema until a fire put an end to that enterprise. If you want to find out more about this and other parts of the heritage attraction, you could do worse that peruse Patrick Comerford's blog entry on the place. It has more details than I have found elsewhere and some have found their way into this album too so attribution is in order. Additionally, information on opening times and other practicalities are to be found on the Heritage Ireland website. After all, this probably is one of the lesser known remnants of Ireland's built heritage, and it looks very well too.
