Killeedy Castle Ruin as seen from St. Ita

Within my own lifetime, some ruins have disintegrated further. Ballybunion Castle in Co. Kerry and Kilbolane Castle near Milford in Co. Cork are examples that come immediately to mind but nothing is quite as ruinous as Killeedy Castle with only a stump remaining following a storm. The graveyard itself is old too though it retains a reputation for being badly drained. However, family connections persist as strongly as that with the local saint who once had a monastery here, Ita. They may prove more long-lived than what remains of the nearby castle yet.
