Castletown, Isle of Man

Castletown, Isle of Man

Until 1869, Castletown was capital of the Isle of Man and the Tynwald met there too. In fact, Manx National Heritage still maintains the former House of Keys building, and it is open to the public at certain times of the year too. The main attraction for me though is the castle and that is there to be seen in the above view through the fields from the coastal path too. This once was the seat of the Lord of Man and the town remains an appealing place to explore, so I often chide myself for having passed through it on buses rather than spending time there as I did the evening when the above scene was captured. A longer visit is needed though and remains outstanding at the time of writing.
