Fløibanen, Bergen, Hordaland, Norway

2016 became a year when I travelled on not less than two funicular railways and both were city centre affairs. The first was in the Austrian Alpine city of Innsbruck and the second was in Bergen. Admittedly, that latter gets lower hills but the delight in gaining some height without much effort hardly lessens. If I had not given myself a fright regarding the whereabouts of my wallet on my first evening in Bergen, the experience of peering over its harbour towards nearby islands would have been more pleasurable. The item was found somewhere I had not expected to put it, so all was well. The next day, I used the same convenience to descend after a day of walking through some of Bergen's nearby hills. That I got to thank more of the staff who I asked for help the previous evening offered some pleasant closure too.
