It would be an attempt to deceive if I didn't admit that capturing Inverness Castle either with or digitally hasn't been a hit-and-miss affair. In some respects, its location doesn't do it too many favours but walking upstream along the River Ness can work wonders. Having the ability to change focal lengths helps photographic efforts too because my experiences with Ricoh 35 mm compact with a fixed 35 mm lens have proved that longer focal lengths help to remove undesirable elements. Saying that, I still found myself engaging in some cropping of the image to further tidy the composition. Yes, I know that taking my time while on location would have helped to get things as desired without further work but considered armchair-based critical appraisal takes you to places where you hadn't considered while out and about.

The building in question is a largely nineteenth century construction that houses the city's Sheriff Court. That doesn't stop other parts of it to be opened up to the visiting public for a fee. The terminus for one end of the Great Glen Way also sports a stature of Flora Macdonald within its grounds, the highland heroin who helped Bonnie Prince Charlie to escape back to France from whence he had originally come at the start of the 1745 rebellion.
