Much like the River Ness, I always seem to be passing through Inverness en route to somewhere else and, even with an overnight stay in the city, there remained an element of that in my most recent visit. Even so, that didn't preclude my seeing a side to the place that I had never seen before then. I cannot explain why this has been the way but seeing anywhere on a dull, damp and dreich day doesn't help for good first impressions. That first encounter saw me head to Loch Ness, the source of the river of the same name. The river reaches the sea at Beauly Firth, but its short length doesn't mean that it cannot spring surprises like the above scene.
