Town House Tower, Union Street, Aberdeen, Scotland

While I was up in Aberdeen on my most recent visit to the place, I ended up making photos of a fair few towers and steeples so here's one of the tower of the Town House on Union Street. The whole building is a large affair that isn't so easy to photograph though I did try. Therefore, I am contenting myself with sharing a picture of the building's main tower, and it's an imposing sight. In hindsight, it might have been better for me to find if I could access a higher vantage point to see if I could get in more of a nicely styled city centre.

The Town House itself is on the site of Aberdeen's erstwhile Tollbooth, a large building in its time though only its steeple remains these days as part of the new building. Like so much of the heart of Aberdeen, it too is a Victorian edifice with a baronial feel in keeping with the Salvation Army Citadel not so far away. However, one might think that the Town House should be big enough to house all the staff of Aberdeen's city council, but that isn't so because part of the University of Aberdeen's Marischal College is leased for the same purposes and I don't believe that it stops there. Has the oil money funded a large council footprint?
