Cairn Gorm from Rothiemurchus, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland

This is an image that takes me back to the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in 2013 though the photo captures a scene on New Year's Day in 2024. The reason is it brings back the first time that I ever watched a feature documentary film by Terry Abraham called *The Cairngorms in Winter with Chris Townsend*. This still is one of his best films, in my opinion, even if it was his first. The resplendent landscape footage and the stirring soundtrack along with Chris Townend's evocative voiceover all ensured that I stay away from the tops, particularly given that some were well whitened by the preceding passage of Storm Gerrit. It was enough for me to savour sights that this one of Cairn Gorm, the hill that gives its name to the largest national park in Scotland and hence the U.K. There could be no feeling of being short-changed by any of that.
