Cairn Gorm from Strath Nethy, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland

It may not look it in the image, yet I was a good deal above the floor of Strath Nethy when I captured what you see above. Cairn Gorm is that mass with its top obscured by the cloud base. Though it would quite a lengthy effort, strolling along the floor of the glen to reach Loch A'an (Loch Avon) still has its appeal. Using a mountain bike would make it a more feasible day excursion, especially after the reality of how far such an out and back escapade it would make, especially when based in Aviemore. A subsequent equivalent hike to Loch Einich confirms that (going that way to the top of Sgor Gaoithe and other hills now staggers me, even if you could string them together on the way back, an energetic enterprise if there ever was one), the Cairngorm Mountains take up quite a large, making for long walk-ins to many mountain summits.
