Cairn Gorm & Creag an Leth-choin, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland

What you scarcely see here in this view from Creag a' Chalamain towards the Lurcher's Crag (Creag an Leth-choin) is the Chalamain Gap, a narrow, boulder-filled mountain pass located between them that holds historical significance as a heritage path and former drove road connecting high ground areas. To reach the former from the Lairig Ghru mountain pass, I left the aforementioned dramatic defile, which also has connections with Glenmore Forest Park near Loch Morlich and the Sugar Bowl car park near Cairn Gorm, which is pictured in the background. My own route choice on my own first visit to the area on Easter Monday 2009 was justified by seeking wider views at the time and now seems more sensible given challenging rugged terrain within the gap that was created by fallen boulders from surrounding crags.
