The first that I ventured through the forests around Moor of Feshie, I was grateful that they did not present the obstacles that had muddied me in Inshriach Forest. This was New Year's Eve 2023 after the onslaught of Storm Gerrit, which included much windthrow and perhaps some windsnap too. The aftermath also made getting to Aviemore from Edinburgh far more challenging than it otherwise might have been, but that is another story.
The above photo comes from early in May 2024 when I was reprising the Hogmanay hike from Kingussie to Aviemore that had been so eventful the first time around. For sake of added interest, there were some route deviations too, with all the traipsing exposing me to far gentler conditions. Thus, I could savour sights of the surrounding hills without worry about clambering over muddy obstacles or getting benighted. In short, this was pleasant ambling.
