Lochan Gamhna, Rothiemurchus, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland

It took until Hogmanay 2023/4 for me to get acquainted with Lochan Gamhna. Firstly, I passed it in declining light on New Year's Eve while hiking from Kingussie to Aviemore. The next day, New Year's Day, I took the chance to see it in stronger light. However, the photo that you see above comes from my third encounter with the lochan at the start of May 2024, again on a hike from Kingussie to Aviemore in kinder conditions and with longer hours of daylight. The Rothiemurchus Estate may warn that they do not maintain the paths going around this body of freshwater, yet they are accessible to anyone with the requisite strong footwear (think hillwalking boots and the like).
