Bruntsfield Links, Edinburgh, Scotland

Here is another digital replacement for a photo originally captured using a compact film camera on the day before my graduation from the University of Edinburgh. Then, I needed to make a dash by train to my home in Macclesfield to pick up a forgotten entry ticket to the graduation ceremony for my brother. Before that, there was a chance to potter about Edinburgh that morning and the matter of registering for my graduation was another task to be addressed.

In the event, my graduation passed off without any untoward event, and it took me until February 2015 to create the image that you see here. Though I lived near Bruntsfield Links for next to three years and stayed in the same flat on a few return visits, it is not somewhere that I often see these days. Life has followed a different course.

It was following my father’s passing that I felt the need to go north again, so a lengthy Sunday stroll in crisp winter sunshine was in order. That took me from Blackford Hill to Dean Village with many other Edinburgh landmarks in between them. Some of these can be seen from Bruntsfield Links too since it is a good vantage point for Edinburgh Castle, very useful for when there are fireworks displays, as well as Salisbury Crags and Arthur’s Seat. They also have associations with golf, possibly from the early days of the game, so you need to exercise care of a warm summer evening, but there was none of that needed on my February visit.
