Craigmillar Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

Craigmillar Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland

This is another sight that I never savoured until well after I stopped living in Edinburgh. In fact, it was only in January 2014 when a walk down through Holyrood Park led me here before I turned to continue to my hotel for the night. Then, I ended up slipping on greasy mud and needed to acquire some new clothes in Cameron Toll Shopping Centre because I was travelling light. Thankfully, adding these to my wardrobe was no excess.

The photo that you see comes from a later visit in the same year when no such mishap overtook me. The sun was playing hard to get, so a wait was in order before the best light of the moment was granted to me. Like so many who dabble in landscape photography, I too needed to await my chance.

The castle itself is under the care of Historic Environment Scotland and the prospect of some photography led me to paying to potter about it on that first visit late of a winter's day. The building is not without its share of history as associations with Mary Queen of Scots proves and there is more to the place than even that.
