Dean Village, Edinburgh, Scotland

Dean Village, Edinburgh, Scotland

Despite the name Dean Village is only a mile or two from the centre of Edinburgh. Even so, it took me until 2003 before I got to visiting the place. The vantage point for the photo was a bridge crossing the Water of Leith. Again, what you see is a digital replacement for a photo captured on film when walking from the Dean Gallery to Leith on what became a sunny Sunday evening after a cloudy start. This also is along the route of the Water of Leith Walkway, another discovery from 2003. Subsequent visits revealed that this is a location plagued by shadow when the sun is low in the sky, so this is not somewhere easy to photograph in winter. It is for that reason that I needed a summer day like the one in August 2016 when the above image was made.
