The National Galleries, Edinburgh, Scotland

Another photograph in this album has the viewer looking towards New College from Princes Street, so this is how things appear on looking back the other way. The road climbing The Mound sweeps by the porticoed buildings housing both the National Gallery of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy as it connects Princes Street to the Royal Mile. Princes Street Gardens, created after the draining of the Nor Loch as allotments for private residences but now a public amenity beneath the city's castle, line both sides of the thoroughfare and the Scott Monument is unmistakeable at the right-hand side of it all.
