Camus Mòr, Isle of Mull, Scotland

Camus Mòr, Isle of Mull, Scotland

One sight that is hard to miss on the eastern seaboard of Mull is that of the nearby rocky coastline of Morvern. It almost appears less habitable than Mull itself though the prospect softens the further north along the Sound of Mull that you go. In fact, there is a reasonably regular ferry from Fishnish on Mull to Lochaline on the Scottish mainland and a coastal road runs north from there to Bunavullin. Around here, it feels as if travel still is easier on water than on land and that was more so in past centuries. What you see above is the view from the road out to Duart Castle, and it is not far from Torosay Castle. In fact, the neck of land sticking out into the sea is part of the gardens of the latter. Domesticity and ruggedness sit side by side here.
