Duart Castle from across Duart Bay, Isle of Mull, Scotland

In this photo, Duart Castle is more diminutive on its headland jutting out from the right. That hides the fact that scaffolding was surrounding the main tower on my most recent visit in August 2014. Some of the hills of Lorn loom behind it like those of Morvern behind the trees. This was the sort of scene that would have attracted my gaze on my first ever visit to Mull in June 1999. The inland view also is the one that I best remember from that time too and there was such a photo on here for years in spite of its imperfections. Its replacement may be no model of perfection either with cloudy skies flattening the light more than I would have liked. What I really would not mind doing is staying on the island for a few days to take advantage of evening light for that would make the sight all the more alluring. There is a handy hotel in Craignure, so the proposal is not unrealistic either.
