Duart Castle, Duart Point, Isle of Mull, Scotland

Duart Castle, Duart Point, Isle of Mull, Scotland

Around a hundred years ago, the restoration of Duart Castle was in progress and there was work ongoing too when I visited in August 2014. The reason was that water ingress had damaged ceilings during the previous winter. To help fund the required work, an appeal has been launched. The requisite scaffolding limited photographic possibilities so here is a close up view with all bar one pesky pole hidden from view. This is a view from the castle's seaward side, and it amazes me how rounded the towers are, and they do give the building something of a fairytale appearance. The location helps too with the hills of Mull and the Scottish mainland giving an alluring background to go with an island-studded sea. Maybe that partly explains its appearance in a number of movies with the moist recent of these being Entrapment with Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones. No such associations were needed to draw me here for there was ample bait without any of that.
