The Quiraing from near Staffin, Trotternish, Isle of Skye, Scotland

My first visit to Skye didn't get to take in the Trotternish peninsula in the north-east of the island, so I addressed that omission on my second outing two years later. It plays host to dramatic scenery of different sort with an otherworldly feel that seems alien in comparison with the more conventional fare in the south. From the west, it all looks like gentle rolling hill country, but the true geological carnage is only visible from the east. It's all the result of an ongoing landslip that has thrown up weird and wonderful rock formations and an inland cliff that extends for miles. This view from near the lively Scots Gaelic-speaking community of Staffin only can show so much but the cliff is on show as are a few of those rock formations of the Quiraing.
