Rha Glen, Uig, Isle of Skye, Scotland

Uig is not the prettiest of spots with its ferry port and the sheltered bay being a calm parking area for shipping. Nevertheless, the countryside surrounding the place isn't so unpleasant and tries its utmost to distract you from the distorted spine of the Trotternish. In fact, looking towards truncated hills like Beinn Edra from this side could make you oblivious to all the geological carnage if you didn't know better and those sharp drops make for careful passage on windy days. My first visit to Uig had me thinking about the possibilities of the beaches of Harris though it was the hills that I saw most when I finally got there. It was on a later encounter after a trek that took me by Beinn Edra, though not over it, when I found the spot of idyll that you see in the photo above. The trees shaded me from the sun while I awaited a bus for Portree and the waterfall was the icing on the cake. In hindsight, I suppose that I really shouldn't leave you in on a delectable spot like this, but there should plenty of Skye for all of us, and you'd have to find this place first.
