Ben Nevis & Mamores from Beinn a

When you gain enough height, it is fascinating to see how the views open out around you. It is by reaching the top of Beinn a' Chrùlaiste that I gained a sighting of the stony head of Ben Nevis rising above the Mamores, no inconsiderable summits in themselves. There was a certain resignation when it came to the effects of heat haze on the sultry July day (a Saturday, as it happens, not that it added to the numbers exploring the hill I was climbing; I had it all to my myself) in 2013 when this image was made. Nevertheless, it would have been ungrateful not to savour views like this.
