St. Kessog's Church, Callander, Stirling District, Scotland

St. Kessog

Though my latest information that this prominent building is now empty, there was a time when it housed the local tourism information centre and an exhibition dedicated to local hero Rob Roy McGregor after it closed as a church. That was how things were on my first visit to the area in August 2002 while on a tour of Scotland that also included Fort William and Portree before rain caught me in the latter. The whole enterprise began in Stirling with a stay in Bannockburn before a final journey to Edinburgh that went around by Inverness.

This photo was made on the day when Queen Elizabeth was laid to rest in September 2022, The promising morning sunshine turned to clouded skies as I hike a circuit with the summit of Ben Ledi as its highest point. This followed an earlier out and back hike a few weeks before and preceded an April 2024 visit when I had enough sunshine for me to say that I have got the best from the area. Naturally, there is more here to justify a return, even if there are other places to distract one's attention, at least for a while.
