Ben Nevis, Glen Nevis, Lochaber, Scotland

You don't see much of Ben Nevis from the floor of Glen Nevis, but even a short ascent will reward your efforts, even if the really dramatic view of the Ben is on the other side. Nevertheless, there are plenty of wrinkles on which to feast your eyes as this scene from January 2006 proves.

The main cleft has been carved out by Allt na h-Urchaire and marks the changeover from Meall an t-Suidhe to Ben Nevis itself. The more observant may pick out the line of the path from Glen Nevis up the to top of the Ben as it turns to follow the burn. It is as yet untravelled for me but thinking about it now makes the prospect that little bit more likely.
